AthensCars operates a car rental business across Crete with a history dating to 1973. Customers can pick up and drop off vehicles at Heraklion Airport, Chania Airport, Heraklion Port, or at least twelve other locations throughout the island including Ammoudara, Chania old and new city, Stalis, Hersonisos, and several beach towns. The company offers a 24-hour pick-up service and accepts one-way rentals between locations.

Rental terms require drivers to be a minimum of 24 years old with a driving license held for at least 2 years; younger drivers incur additional insurance charges depending on vehicle type. All rentals are calculated on a 24-hour basis with a one-day minimum, though customers charged only for hours exceeding the drop-off time. Payment is accepted in cash or all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), with payment due when the car is collected—no credit card required to book. Free baby, booster, and infant car seats are included, as well as a free second driver.

All vehicles are insured with full collision damage waiver and third-party liability cover up to €1.22 million. Standard coverage has zero excess, though some high-value vehicles may incur an excess charge. Additional insurance covers tyres, undercarriage, glass, and personal items. Free airport meet-and-greet service is offered at Heraklion and Chania. Driving outside Crete is not permitted, and only drivers named on the rental agreement may operate the vehicle. Reservations can be cancelled free of charge, including on the same day. The company provides 24-hour customer service and roadside assistance.
